Hi My Contemporaries,

I love Sarkozy. Last time when I had heard of a similar stand taken by any Head of the State was Akbar with his 'Din-e-Ilahi'. That was in 16th century India, and we were too young then to meet Akbar and congratulate him. Joseph Stalin, with all his other political shortcomings, again succeded in doing a good job of eliminating orthodox religious practices in the 20th century Russia. We again missed the opportunity...as we were too young even then. Now that we are rich with our years, let's congratulate Sarkozy. Don't you think so?

Advent of Islam unified the nomadic tribal social fabric of Arabia where political constitution of that particular geophical region could not have possibly been separated from concocted and subsequently inflicted fear called religion. But that was in 7th century AD. This is 21st century AD. We still continue to get indoctrinated and inflicted with that obsolete fear. These guilt inflicting practices in the name of religion still exist. Now let us not mix up issues. Churches, Temples, Mosques or Synogogues etc. etc. can not govern matters of a democratic State. If religion has to exist, it should not infringe upon the individual rights. Else it has to go...and it WILL go, because human survival instincts will resist impositions. Natural genetic evolution process is thankfully too selfish, hence it will find its way to continue to retain its ability to survive, and it is too strong to succumb to any man made impositions.

you know this argument could be both ways.....i find the burka demeaning to women, i think they are literally in a prison and they seem to convince their minds that it is what they want and overtime perhaps they become so convinced it is the right way to go that it would be counterproductive for us to to antagonize them. on the one hand if these ...women want to wear the burka, let them no one else is suffering their prison but them. but i do agree that when they enter a different civilization where the laws are different, they have to respect these laws. after all islam dictates that muslims anywhere in the world must respect the laws of the country hosting them. so these women cannot wear the burka in france and expect a welcome so if they choose to wear it, they should go to places that are more tolerant of these eccentricities

Hayat,this kind of argument just sends me to the roof! When and why educated people in the free world get confused about basic common sense? Let me explain: when a woman wears "whatever the hell that ugly black outfit is called" she does not do it, because so to speak she "chooses" to wear the damn thing. She is beaten into submission from a ... tender age meaning when she is a child, a state of complete availability and vulnerably. Now, keep in mind that she is also taught that is what the Almithy God wants her to do. She is also made to believe that being controlled abused will make the Almaighty God happy with her. So how on the earth can we expect of such women to miraculously reject their ugly outfits once they have immigrated? Besides political Islam wants to make this kind of abuse a legal practice under the banner of religion. In a decent society a child should not be abused in anyway, shape or form! Najat, definitely, most people are indoctrinated and coerced as youths into practicing a religion. However, not all Muslim women that are wearing the cloth are being physically forced into the practice. Actually, many Western converts to Islam are choosing it. Children are a different matter. In the Muslim world, most children don't even wear the hijab or niqab.

I agree with Najat and others here who are for government intervention to end this oppression of women. Oppression can be through force or indoctrination. Freedom of expression ends where one's freedoms impinge on the freedoms of others, including on their freedoms not to be indoctrinated and oppressed. The Bush analogy is a terrible analogy and does not apply here. You are picking something that is considered a horrendous violation of human rights by general consensus. No one is talking about starting a killing spree of all those wearing burkas. A better analogy is slavery. Many Southern plantation owners and even some Northern yankees argued ... that imposing a ban on slavery would be counterproductive and would only increase slavery. Government intervention was the answer then. It was the answer when Blacks were given he right to vote and women were given equal rights. After progressive ideas have been implemented by human rights ideals it takes years for it to become general consensus. Another great analogy is the caste system in Hindu society, where "upper caste" people argue that it is freedom of expression, when in reality it is oppression through indoctrination. Change comes from within and from without- but it always comes through people who care.

I completely support Pres. Sarkozi's views. Burqa should be banned in all civilized world. If Turkey, an Islamic country, can ban Burka 70 years ago why cannot a modern democracy do so. Face gives identity to a person. Hiding it behind veil is equal to snatching a human’s identity. Burka is a public safety issue as well. More and more fujitives, terrorists and criminals are using Burqa to hide their identity in public or to conduct crimes. Few years back a jeweller in Brampton, Canada was robbed in broad daylight by Burka wearing robbers. Interestingly both the victim and some members of robbery gang belonged to orthodox Ahmadiyya sect that strongly believe in keeping women in Burka.

I agree with Tarek Fatah....one should be modestly dressed up, applied for both genders, no need to hide identities .Women are two units of a pair. The Quran says: "O mankind! surely We have created you of a male and a female, and made you tribes and families that you may know each other; surely the most honorable of you with Allah is the one ... among you most careful (of his duty)Meaning that they complement each other in numerous ways both in mental, physical and emotional qualities. Islam looks at the different responsibilities of each gender. These responsibilities are defined as being the traditional family structure, where women are responsible for the household and men are responsible for earning the livelihood for the family. However women in Islam are seen as independent and self reliant individuals, therefore challenging the traditional view of a family structure.

I am not a fan of the burka. I am uncomfortable when I see it. But honestly, all dress is cultural. When I lived in NY, I recall being horrified watching two young Hasidic boys playing outside on a sweltering hot day in their "religious" outfits. I also feel uncomfortable when I see scantily-clad over-sexualized pre-teens shopping with their ... parents in the grocery. The point is not to impose dress codes. It is to remove what ever elements of compulsion exist. Finally, Tarek, having lived for substantial periods in Brussels and Paris, I suffer no doubt that the rising anti-Muslim sentiment across Europe is just a code for legitimate racism. Sarko does not limit his attacks to the burka or those who wear them. He also is not a fan of the North African "racailles" who don't wear the burka.

i think perhaps you should reread what i wrote and maybe you would not misinterpret my logical approach to this situation as an apologetic one. i make no apologies for arabs or muslims. each individual is free to do what he/she wants to do. your approach to the situation that it must be changed, can only come through force and that is ... counterproductive to your agenda of liberating the enslaved women as you call them. therefore unless you have a practical solution besides forcing them to do the opposite of what they have been brainwashed to do then i suggest you put it forth. but if you are insinuating that these women should be liberated by forcing them into a way of life they strongly oppose then i would have to say you are not being practical. furthermore i have stated that if these women choose to continue to wear their burkhas they should not do so in a land that opposes this practice and must find a land that is welcoming to them

freedom of choice should not be interpreted as a curse....perhaps this is beyond you to understand, but not everyone in this world have a homogenous approach to all situations and way of life. you dont have to believe in their belief, but you have to respect and not force your opinion on them. but again you should read once more what i wrote and ... please do not make assumptions as to my state of thought. my beliefs on this issue are irrelevant to this discussion. i look at all angles and make an analysis based on practicalities while continuing to take consideration of all cultures and religion.

किसी काम के सिलसिले में महाबलेश्वर गया था। वहाँ पहुँच कर काम धाम तो भूल गया अपने कमरे से इस प्राकृतिक छटा का आनंद लेने लग गया... अपनी ली हुई तस्वीरें आप सभी से बाँटना चाहता हूँ । अनायास ही 'मेघदूत' के यक्ष की पीड़ा हूक बन कर उठती है... यक्ष मेघ से कहता है कि हे मेघ, देखो यहाँ सामने वाल्मिक के सिरों से इन्द्रधनुष निकल रहा है जो कई रत्नों के मेल से निर्मित कान्तिपुन्ज की तरह है। यहाँ इन्द्रधनुष बाँबी से निकलता है और अपनी बाँकी उठान से अन्तरिक्ष को घेर लेता है।

आपकी प्रतिक्रया की प्रतीक्षा रहेगी।

मेरी शंकाएँ

हममें से बहुतों के धर्म के स्रोत और उसकी उत्पत्ति के प्रति अपने अपने सिद्धांत और मत हैं। ये मत कहाँ से उत्पन्न हुए और मानव संस्कृति ने इन्हें क्यों ग्रहण कर लिया? कुछ तो है जो हमें इन धार्मिक धारणाओं से मिलता है, जैसे, ढाढ़स, आश्वासन, तसल्ली, धैर्य, दिलासा, आदि आदि। ये मान्यताएं अलग अलग गुटों में निजी भाईचारे और मैत्री को भी प्रखरता से दर्शाती हैं। अपने अस्तित्व में आने के कारण को जानने की उत्सुकता को भी ये धारणाएं संतुष्ट और शांत करती हैं। फिर भी मेरी कुछ पूर्ववर्ती शंकाएँ हैं... ऐसा क्यों हैं की आज तक कोई धार्मिक मान्यता विज्ञान की ओर देख कर इस निष्कर्ष पर नहीं पहुँची कि ब्रह्माण्ड, जैसा हमारे ईश्वर्दूतों, पैग़मबरों ने सोचा था, वैज्ञानिक आधार पर उससे कहीं ज़्यादा विशाल, भव्य, गूढ़ और मनोहर है। पर नहीं.... हमारे इश्वर, अल्लाह जैसे थे वैसे ही रहेंगे...! और हम चाहते हैं कि वो वैसे ही रहें। ... ब्रह्माण्ड के कोनों में छिपे वैभव को उजागर करके उसका जितना सम्मान आधुनिक विज्ञान कर सकता है, हमारी पारंपरिक धार्मिक आस्थाओं की बंद आँखें हमें वहां पहुँचने तक नहीं देतीं ।

Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief and Railway Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav at a function to mark the 125th birth anniversary of India’s first President Dr. Rajendra Prasad in Patna on Sunday used the occasion to attract the Kayastha community in the presence of some eminent Kayasthas of Bihar.
Ram Kripal Yadav, the RJD MP, also praised the Kayastha community for their support to Lalu Prasad Yadav saying even Jai Prakash Narain, the architect of the ’70s revolt against the Emergency, trusted him to bring drastic change in the nation.

Lalu said “With your mighty pen and my lathi, we can overcome many hurdles in the state and bring prosperity and peace for all.” Yadav, who once coined the term ‘Bhura Baal’ to express his dislike for Bhumihar, Rajput, Brahman, and Lala (the Kayasthas) to solidify his voting base with Muslims and Yadavs otherwise known as the famous MY equation.

क्या है किसी अबोध बच्चे का धर्म?

कहीं किसी वक़्त बात करते करते मेरे मुंह से किसी एक बच्चे के लिए निकल पड़ा कि 'फलां फलां का illegitimate child (अवैध संतान) है'। मेरे बड़े भाई ने टोका 'बच्चा illegitimate (अवैध) है या उसके माँ बाप? ख़बरदार जो कभी किसी बच्चे को illegitimate (अवैध) कहा।' बात घर कर गयी। किसी अबोध को क्या मालूम अपने अस्तित्व में आने का कारण और परिस्थितियाँ.... फिर भी सामाजिक प्रथानुसार उससे सारी उम्र जताया जाय कि वो अवैध है, ये कहाँ तक उचित है....? इसी सन्दर्भ में अब आते हैं जाती प्रथा पर। आये दिन जो सुनने में आता है कि 'फलां बच्चा मुसलमान है' या 'फलां बच्चा हिन्दू या इसाई है'। क्या उस बच्चे को ये मालूम है कि वो किस धर्म का है? उसके माँ बाप हिन्दू, मुसलमान, इसाई या किसी भी धर्म के अनुयायी हो सकते हैं, पर क्या किसी अबोध मन पर ये बोझ डालना तर्कसंगत है? कोई भी बच्चा, किसी भी धर्म के मानने वाले माता पिता की संतान हो सकता है, पर विज्ञान हमें बताता है कि मान्यताएं आनुवंशिक (genetic) नहीं होतीं.

साम्राज्यवाद की दलाल भारत सरकार बेशक़ लगातार ये दावा करती रही है कि वैश्विक महामंदी का असर अपने देश पर नहीं पड़ने दिया जायेगा, मगर भारत सरकार के ही श्रम मंत्रालय की रिपोर्ट के अनुसार मार्च 2009 तक क़रीब 15 लाख लोग सूचना प्रौद्योगिकी, निर्यात उद्योग तथा अन्य सेवाओं का अपना प्राप्त रोज़गार खो चुके होंगे. यही नहीं भारतीय उत्पादों की अमेरिका तथा यूरोप में माँग गिर जाने के कारण 5 लाख लोगों का रोज़गार और ध्वस्त होने वाला है. औसत विकास दर 9% से घाट कर 5% पर खिसकने की पूरी संभावना है. ये घटती विकास दर, बढ़ती बेरोज़गारी बताती है कि महामंदी की लपटों में भारत भी पूरी तरह झुलसने जा रहा है. 10 फ़रवरी 2009 को महाराष्ट्र के श्रममंत्रालय ने अपनी रिपोर्ट प्रस्तुत कर राज्य सरकार को सूचित किया की इस वर्ष 15 लाख लोगों को अपनी नौकरियों से हाथ धोना पड़ा है. ऐसी स्थितियों में जहाँ जन असंतोष,दलाल सरकारों को बेनक़ाब कर हमेशा हमेशा के लिए उखाड़ फेंकने में काम आ सकता है, वहीं प्रतिक्रियावादी ताक़तें उन्हे उत्तर भारतीय, स्थानीय, आदि आदि में बाँट कर आपस में भिड़वाती हैं, जबकि असल समस्या साम्राज्यवादी भूमंडलीकरण, निजीकरण तथा उदारीकरण की वजह से है. अपनी रोज़मर्रा की आपाधापी से थोड़ा समय निकाल कर, हम अपना सामाजिक दायित्व निभाते हुए कुछ चिंतन करें।

कोई ब्लॉगर साथी इसका तर्जुमा हिन्दी में कर दे तो मेहरबानी होगी। इस प्रविष्टी का ब्लॉग जगत ही नहीं दूसरी जगहों में भी पढ़ा जाना नितांत आवश्यक है। ये शोभा डे द्बारा लिखित 'Bombay Times' में छपा लेख है जो मुझे ई-मेल के ज़रिये मिला। हालांकि लेखिका के कथा साहित्य से मैं प्रभावित नहीं हूँ, फिर भी इस लेख का मैं क़ायल हो गया। ग़ौर करें -

Correct me if I am wrong, Raj... but I consider myself an assal Marathi manoos। Born in Maharashtra to Maharashtrian parents etc. Proud to be Marathi (even though my language skills in my mother tongue are embarrassingly dodgy). I don't know how to make the perfect puran poli but I do love aamti.. This is clearly not enough anymore. Going by the checklist, I could be disqualified on several scores. I am married to a Bong, who has lived and worked in Mumbai for over 30 years (but alas, has not been appointed ambassador to the state of West Bengal yet!). He attends Durga Puja regularly and prefers maacher jhol to vangi bhaat. Fortunately, we don't have a daughter-in-law to name a college after, either in Kolkata or Mumbai.... And our children (like yours) did not attend Marathi-medium schools.. We employ people based on their competence, not caste or region. And I have never asked the vegetable vendor, breadwalla, taxi driver, dhobi, sweeper, elevator attendant, security guard, pizza delivery boy or any of the other people who make my life easier, which part of India they come from. This is Mumbai, meri jaan! Who cares where anyone comes from? Dhanda is all that matters.. Mumbai is India's most powerful magnet. Once you get here, you never leave. Don't believe me? Ask those innocent bhajjiwallas and doodhwallas who were beaten up and stoned by your men last week. Even with blood-soaked bandages around their heads, and broken hearts, they are staying put. As they should. Aaah, the natak of your dramatised 'arrest' was not lost on anybody. Had Rakhi Sawant's slapping stunt not grabbed those eyeballs on Valentine's Day, viewers would still be stuck with the image of a nattily dressed you (mmmm...loved the styling), clambering in and out of the police van. If Rakhi cleverly stage-managed the incident, what should one say about your brilliant coup? Overnight, Raj Thackeray was elevated from being the discarded Thackeray to a national figure. In one well-orchestrated move, you went from being a neglected nephew of an ageing tiger, to a sharp-clawed, teeth-baring cub with an independent act of his own. The circus acquired a brand new star attraction - you! It was never easy being a Thackeray. Ask Balasaheb. If he targeted south Indians in the '60s, you smartly headed north. Same agenda, diametrically different directions. By questioning the bona fides of those who have made Maharashtra their home, both of you tapped into the vulnerabilities of the average Marathi manoos. It is worth asking the very people whose interests you are protecting, whether they really want to do the dirty work currently being handled by the northies. Will the Marathi manoos agree to put in 18 hours a day plying taxis, selling veggies, washing clothes and so on? Who's stopping them from turning into vendors of milk, food grains, and other commodities? Perhaps, the Marathi manoos considers such occupations demeaning? The truth is, these jobs have always gone abegging, and there have been any number of hungry, unemployed people from other states ready and willing to grab them. Kick the 'outsiders' out at your own peril, and see what happens... Why do farmers commit suicide in such numbers only in Maharashtra ? The answer, dear Raj, may surprise you. In your defence, let me say you received the worst press - biased at best, and shrill to boot. Most of the semi-hysterical reporters from prestigious news channels were embarrassingly ill-informed as they blabbered incoherently each time a leaf moved outside the magistrate's court! Surely, you are not complaining? Everything seems to be going according to the master plan. You have 'made it' in one swift move. And women are finding you kinda cute in that sleeveless baby blue pullover. Great copy, great photo ops. What more does a neta want? To keep Mayawati and Lalu out of Maharashtra ? Now, that's a tall order!

End of the day, Be Indian!!! Don't follow blindly the 'divide and rule' policy of any selfish politician!!!

13. We should be ready to die hungry or buy food at 10 times higher price but should not accept imports from other states.

14. We should not allow any industry to be setup in Maharashtra because all machinery comes from outside.

15. We should STOP using local trains... Trains are not manufactured by Marathi manoos and Railway Minister is a Bihari.

16. Ensure that all our children are born, grow, live and die without ever stepping out of Maharashtra, then they will become true Marathi.

जिन्ना, राज ठाकरे, तोगड़िया, शाहबुद्दीन जैसे लोग और धार्मिक ग्रन्थ.

क्षमा, अहिंसा, आपसी सद्‍भाव वग़ैरा वग़ैरा मानवीय संवेदना से उपजे भाव हैं. इन्हे सीखने या समझने के लिए किसी क़ुर'आन, वेद, गीता या बाईबल की ज़रूरत नहीं है. इन ग्रंथों की सार्थकता तब रही होगी जब ये ४५०० साल से लेकर १५०० साल पहले तक लिखे गये थे, आज नहीं है. कोई बच्चा पैदा होते ही इन निरर्थक ग्रंथों को नहीं पढ़ने लगता है. उसमे ये बीज बोए जाते हैं और वो धर्म के आधार पर स्वयं को अन्य धर्म अनुयायी बच्चों से पृथक समझने लगता है. इन सभी भावों के पालन करने का संस्कार हमें अपनी बुनियादी और इब्तिदाई परवरिश में मिलता है. इन 'मदरसों' और 'सरस्वती शिशु मंदिरों' के बारे में तो मुझे ख़ास इल्म नहीं है, पर इतना ज़रूर जानता हूँ कि किसी भी अन्य स्कूल में ये भावनाएँ इन अविकसित ग्रंथों के ज़रिए नहीं सिखाई जातीं, ना ही कोई माता पिता ऐसे संस्कार देना चाहते हैं. राज ठाकरे, विनय कटियार, सैय्यद शाहबुद्दीन, प्रवीण तोगड़िया और बुख़ारी जैसे लोगों में यही तुख़्मी (बीज संबंधित) ख़राबी है. यहाँ जिन्ना का नाम नहीं लूँगा. इन जाहिलों और जिन्ना में ज़मीन आसमान का फ़र्क़ है.

हम और हमारा 'बुर्क़ा'

हिन्दुस्तान के विभाजन के वक़्त हिंदू मुस्लिम के बीच भड़के दंगों में दस लाख लोग मारे गये और पंद्रह लाख लोग बेघर हुए। मारने वालों और मरने वालों का सिर्फ़ एक कारण था - 'धर्म'। उन्हे विभाजित करने वालों के सिरों पर सिर्फ़ एक 'लेबल' था - 'धर्म'। क्या हम वाक़ई विवेकी, बुद्धिसंगत, युक्तिमूलक हैं? या बुर्क़ा ( Burqa - the narrow window of 'Light') जैसी चीज़ पहन कर, ख़ुद को अन्धकार में रखना चाहते हैं?

धर्म और Emerson

दुनिया के मुख़्तलिफ़ (विभिन्न) चिंतकों की मज़हब के मुत'अल्लिक़ (सम्बंधित) जो राय रही है, उसका हिन्दी तर्जुमा (अनुवाद) पिछले चंद दिनों से आपकी ख़िदमत में पेश करता आ रहा हूँ। उसी सिलसिले को जारी रखते हुए फिर पेश है उन्नीसवीं शताब्दी के अमरीकी लेखक, चिन्तक और कवि Emerson का एक ख़ूबसूरत ख़याल -

"किसी एक युग का धर्म, उसके आगामी युग के लिए साहित्यिक मनोरंजन (या 'मनोरंजक साहित्य') है।"

Emerson के इस जुमले (वाक्य) से मुत्तफ़्फ़िक़ (सहमत) होते हुए ये कहना चाहता हूँ कि हमें फ़ख्र है कि हमने आगामी युग के मनोरंजन के लिए भरपूर सामान इकट्ठा कर रखा है। आने वाली पुश्तों की अदबी (साहित्यिक) तफ़रीह के इस इन्तज़ाम के लिए हमें उन सभी किताबों का शुक्रगुज़ार होना चाहिए जिनकी 'न कोई शुरूआत है न आख़िर' ('आदि न अंत') या वो जो नाज़िल (आकाश से प्रकट) हो गयी हैं (ना मालूम कैसे) या वो जो किसी को बेरहमी से लकड़ी पर ठोंक देने के बाद उसके ज़िंदा हो जाने का मज़ाक़िया क़िस्सा बयाँ करती हो। इन किताबों के आगे बेचारे देवकी नंदन खत्री की 'भूतनाथ' भी पनाह मांगेगी। इन किताबों ने आज जो भी क़हर ढा रक्खा हो, हमें ख़ुश होना चाहिए कि कम से कम आगामी पुश्तों के लिए हम उनके हंसने का सामान तो सौंप रहे हैं।

कल एक ब्लॉग (http://www.anindianmuslim.com/) से तआ'रुफ़ाना सामना हुआ और लखनऊ की नामालूम कितनी पुरानी यादें ताज़ा हो गयीं। बेसाख़्ता कुछ कह डाला। हालाँकि ये Comment उनके ब्लॉग पर भी है, फिर भी आपसे बांटने का मोह रोक नहीं पा रहा हूँ। ज़रा रिक्शे वाले से हुई गुफ्तगू पर भी ग़ौर कीजियेगा। मुलाहिज़ा हो -

क्या ये तथ्य मुस्लिम, हिंदू या किसी और धार्मिक बुद्धिजीवी पर सटीक नहीं बैठता?

बद्तमीज़ी की इन्तिहा या ओहदे का गुमाँ

एक ब्लॉग 'क़ुन' http://namiraahmad.blogspot.com/ के आख्रीरी पोस्ट पर आप सबका तवज्जो चाहूंगा। उन्वान है 'ये तो बद्तमीज़ी की इन्तिहा है'। मज़मून कुछ यों है-

"मध्य प्रदेश के सम्माननीय सांसद को रेलवे पुलिस के जवानों ने लहू लुहान कर दिया ! यह देख /सुन कर बहुत दुःख हुआ ! सांसद किसी भी दल के सदस्य हों उनका सम्मान जनता के प्रतिनिधि का सम्मान और उनकी बेइज्जती जनता की बेइज्जती है !
पुलिस कर्मी जनप्रतिनिधियों के साथ इस तरह का सलूक करते हैं तो साधारण जनता के प्रति उनके रवैये को बखूबी समझा जा सकता है !
लोकतान्त्रिक देश के नागरिक ( अदना ही सही ) की हैसियत से हमारा मानना है कि
ये तो बद्तमीजी की इन्तहा है !"

मेरी प्रतिक्रया -

"सांसद हों या आम जनता, किसी के साथ की गयी बदतमीज़ी मंज़ूर नहीं होनी चाहिए. लेकिन किसी भी सांसद का पुलिस से पिट जाना इसलिए बदतमीज़ी है क्योंकि वो सांसद है या जनता का नुमाइंदा है, किसी भी दलील से खरा नहीं उतरता. मेरा ख़्याल है कि अगर जनता भी कोई तहज़ीब का दायरा तोड़े तो उसके नुमाइंदे को ही ज़िम्मेदार ठहराना चाहिए. ऐसी बहुत सी मिसालें हमारे पास हैं और हम आए दिन देखते जा रहे हैं जहाँ ये नुमाइंदे आवाम को भड़का कर हमारा जीना हराम कर रहे हैं, और अपने सांसद या उसी जनता के बदौलत नेता होने का नाजायज़ फ़ायदा उठा रहे हैं. आपके चहेते सांसद क्यों पिट गये इससे मेरा कोई सरोकार नहीं, लेकिन उनके ओहदे की दुहाई न दें और अगर वो आम जनता की नुमाइंदगी कर रहे हैं, तो उन्हे ही पीटना जायज़ होगा."

अंधी आँखन सूझै नाहीं

एक रोज़ कुछ पढ़ते - पढ़ते सोचने लग गया। आप सभी से बाँटना चाहता हूँ।

सादी तेरहवीं सदी के फ़ारसी के वो सूफ़ी शायर हैं जिनके एक बंद का अंग्रेजी तर्जुमा New York में UN बिल्डिंग के Hall Of Nations में दाख़िल होते वक़्त आपको दरवाज़े पर लिखा दिखाई देगा। मुलाहिज़ा हो :

Human beings are members of a whole,
In creation of one essence and soul.

If one member is afflicted with pain,
Other members uneasy will remain.

If you have no sympathy for human pain,
The name of human you cannot retain.

इसी बंद का तर्जुमा University of Minnesota के Dr. Iraj Bashiri कुछ यूँ करते हैं -

ब्लॉगर सम्प्रदाय, मुझे सहयोग चाहिए

ब्लॉग की दुनियाँ में घूमते घूमते एकाएक ऐसे ब्लॉग में दाख़िल हो गया जिसने मेरी आंखें खोल के रख दीं। ब्लॉग के शौक़ीन, हर उस सोचने वाले से प्रार्थना है कि उस ब्लॉग पर ज़रूर जाये और मानवता के भले के लिए उन हज़रत के मार्गदर्शन से लाभ उठाये। भारत में समाज सेवा की ओर उठा ये मेरा पहला क़दम है कृपया सहयोग दें। इन हज़रत के कई ब्लॉग हैं जिनमें से कुछ का URL है -http://hinduweb.blogspot.com/ और http://bighindu.blogspot.com/ । ये सज्जन बिहार के रहने वाले हैं और आधुनिक भारतीयता इनमें कूट कूट कर भरी हुयी है, जो अनुकर्णीय है। अगर हम और आप इनके साथ न हुए तो और कौन होगा ? बिहार प्रांत के डॉ राजेन्द्र प्रसाद, जय प्रकाश नारायण जैसे विचारकों के उत्तराधिकारी अब हम हिन्दुस्तानियों को मिल गए हैं। हमें ख़ुश होना चाहिए। उनके एक पोस्ट का परिचय दूँ , शीर्षक है " गोधरा का सच सामने आया" -

"२५ सितम्बर को नानावटी कमीसन की रिपोर्ट आने के बाद यह तय हो गया की गोधरा मे साबरमती एक्सप्रेस मे रामसेवक जलाये गए थे । पहले के कार्यक्रम के अनुसार मुस्लिमो ने रामसेवक को जला कर मार डाला । लेकिन जब इस पर राजनीती सुरु हुए तो कहा गया की आग अन्दर से लगाई गई थी । मुस्लिम वोट के भूखे लालू यादव ने रेलवे के माध्यम से एक आयोग बनाया जिसने बहुत कम समय मे चमचे की तरह ऐसे रिपोर्ट पेश की जिसकी बाते किसी के गले नही उतरी । उसने कहा की आग अन्दर से लगाई गई थी । नानावटी आयोग की रिपोर्ट के बाद देश को यह जान लेना चाहिये की वोट के लिए हिदू समुदाय के ही नेता इसे बेचने मे कोई कसर नही छोड़ते है । मामले मे नरेन्द्र मोदी फिर विजई बन कर सामने आए है ।"

इस पोस्ट पर इस ग़रीब ने एक टिप्पणी डाली -

कुलज़मों के रहने वाले, बुलबुलों में बंद हैं

क़ाबिल-ए-इबरत है ये महदूदियत इंसान की

ज़रा ये फ़र्क़ देखो अहल-ए-ज़ाहिर और बातिन में,

सज़ा-ए-मौत जो उसकी, उरूसी जश्न है इसका ।

ये बता कि कारवाँ क्यूं लुटा

गोधरा से दिल्ली तक

अपने दर्द का कुछ हिस्सा आपकी खिदमत में पेश है -


न आसें टूटतीं अपनी, न जलता आशियाँ अपना,

न होता सैद-अफ़्गन गर ये ज़ालिम बाग़बां अपना।


न जाने कुफ्र-ओ-ईमां की कहाँ जाकर हदें छूटें,

चलो ढूँढें नया कोई अमीर-ए-कारवाँ अपना।


मज़ाक़-ए-काफिरी है अब, शगुफ्ता ज़िंदगी है अब,

कहाँ लाया है दानिस्ता, हमें दर्द-ए-निहां अपना।


मोअज़्ज़िन इक अज़ां पे खींच लाया भीड़ लोगों की,

यहाँ हम ढूंढते फिरते रहे इक हमज़बाँ अपना।


चमन में रंग-ओ-बू-ए-गुल ये क्या इतराते फिरते हैं,

चले आओ ज़रा लेकर जमाल-ए-बेकराँ अपना।


(सैद-अफ़्गन - शिकारी। बाग़बां - बाग़ का रखवाला, माली। कुफ्र-ओ-इमाँ - आस्तिकता और नास्तिकता , हदें छूटें - सीमाओं से बाहर आयें. अमीर-ए-कारवाँ - नेतृत्व करने वाला, कारवाँ की अगुवाई करने वाला। मज़ाक़-ए-काफिरी - नास्तिकता की ओर रुझान । शगुफ्ता - प्रफुल्लित। दानिस्ता - समझ बूझ कर । दर्द-ए-निहां - आन्तरिक पीड़ा। मोअज़्ज़िन - मस्जिद में अजां देने वाला जिसे सुन कर लोग नमाज़ पढ़ने आते हैं। हमज़बाँ - अपनी भाषा समझने वाला। रंग-ओ-बू-ए-गुल - फूलों के अलग अलग रंग और खु़शबू। जमाल-ए-बेकराँ - निस्सीम सौंदर्य )

इस ग़ज़ल का पहला शेर गोधरा काण्ड के वक़्त जनाब नरेन्द्र मोदी की नज़र था जो उस सन्दर्भ में समझा जा सकता है। अपने अन्तिम शेर की प्रेरणा मुझे डॉ राधाकृष्णन के एक लेख से मिली थी, लेकिन वो फिर कभी....

आज के 'Mumbai Mirror' की ज़रा इस ख़बर पर ग़ौर फरमाएं

"An eight-year-old's diksha, which basically means renunciation and is an age-old practice followed by the Jain community, has pitted tradition against modern laws. Observing that the practice of minors being initiated into diksha is "as bad as the tradition Sati", the Bombay High Court on Thursday said there is an urgent need to frame guidelines on the issue।The HC made this observation while hearing an appeal filed by the child's parents who had challenged the contention of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) that the girl, now 12, "is in need of care and protection". The division bench of justice P B Majmudar and justice Amjad Sayed observed, "No religion can allow a minor to become a sadhu. It's as bad as Sati and there should be some law to prevent minors from taking diksha. Under the provisions of law, the court is the ultimate guardian of every minor and if we do not protect the rights of this minor child, we will fail in our duty." The court appointed a four-member committee to interview the 'sadhvi'। The committee comprises prothonotry (administrative in-charge of HC) A Rodrigues, senior counsel Rajani Iyer, CWC chairperson Dr Shaila Mhatre and advocate Ravindra Parekh who will "interview the sadhviji about her decision to seek diksha"। The committee meet the "sadhviji" who is presently at a derasar (a Jain temple) in Juhu on September 1.

अब ज़रा माता-पिता की अपने वकील के ज़रिये दी गयी दलील पर भी ग़ौर करें -

Appearing on behalf of the parents, advocate Milind Sathe said, "The ritual is more than hundreds of years old. It is about sentiments and religion, and the decision to take diksha was independently taken by the child. The parents never forced her. A person who takes diksha is not allowed to come back to society. In our view, she does not need care and protection."

वकील साहब ने बच्ची से बात करने के इजलास के मशविरे को ये कह कर नामंजूर करना चाहा -

“They (साध्वी) are not allowed to interact in public "

हालांकि उन्होंने ये भी माना -

"The court may appoint a committee to interview her,” He conceded that there is a need for a law on the issue, but it cannot be decided by the legislature alone.

ये इजलास न होती तो क्या होता -

“Even the shankaracharya was a common citizen before he renounced the world। He too had to come to court,” the judges said referring to the head of the Kanchi Mutt in Tamil Nadu who is named in a murder case. “We understand the sentiments of religion, but it is important to protect her interests also। After 20 years, she must not repent her decision. The court cannot be a silent spectator to such an issue ignoring the fact that the girl child is allowed to renounce the world at a tender age. We feel an eight-year-old is not able to take such a big decision.” The judges said once the committee submits its report, they may call the “sadhvi” for an in-chamber interview “if the report does not satisfy them”.

In March 2004, the diksha ceremony in which the eight-year-old renounced the material world had ruffled child rights activists। The matter was brought to the attention of CWC by Childline, an NGO. In July 2006, the HC had directed CWC to find whether she had taken diksha voluntarily or was forced to do so. The CWC said in a report that the young girl needed care.

इसके बाद बच्ची के वालिदैन (माता-पिता) CWC के नज़रिए से मुतफ़्फ़िक़ (सहमत) न हुए। लिहाज़ा उन्होंने बच्ची को साध्वी बनाने की जद्द-ओ-जहद (अथक परिश्रम) के ज़ेर-ऐ-असर (फलस्वरूप) इजलास का दरवाज़ा दोबारा खटखटाया -

Later, the girl's parents challenged the CWC's order in the HC, which granted a stay on the CWC order. Thursday's hearing was in connection with the parents' challenge to the CWC's finding.

आठ बरस की बच्ची, जिसे शायद कोई भी चहचहाता हुआ देखना चाहेगा उसका हिन्दोस्तान जैसे मुल्क में ये हश्र है। इस ख़बर के मुत्तालिक़ अपने एक शेर की ज़हमत देना चाहूंगा। मुलाहिज़ा हो-
